Latvian Shipping’s M/T
“Indra” a 28,400 DWT, IMO
II Chemical Tanker had all 14 main cargo tanks plus
2 slop tanks coated with MarineLine in 1994 at Lisnave
Shipyard, Portugal.
The M/T “Indra” having
carried methanol, fatty acids, caustics and a multitude
of other chemicals successfully was upgraded to an acid
carrier in 1998. The upgrading consisted of installing
reinforced fiberglass MarineLine to all tank tops.
Immediately after the upgrading,
the M/T “Indra” began carrying Super Phosphoric
Acid from Morocco to India for approximately 2 years.
(Super Phosphoric Acid from Morocco contains Hydrochloric
Acid and Sulfuric Acid which has caused major damage
to Stainless Steel Tanks).
The M/T “Indra” is presently
carrying methanol, acetic acid, caustics, fatty acids,
and other aggressive cargoes.
Ease of cleaning and fast turnaround
has been the added bonus to this tanker’s profit
making performance since 1994.
