Med Marine A.Ş. Exudes a History of Quality Tankers Outfitted with MarineLINE
Since 2008, Med Marine A.Ş. and its tanker management arm YMN have built a 15-year relationship with APC, coating 18 vessels with MarineLINE® across a fleet of 13 chemical/oil tankers, with two more vessels recoated in 2022 and 2023.
Overview
A four-decade shipbuilder, expanding into fleet management.
Med Marine A.Ş. is known for building state-of-the-art tugboats and stainless-steel IMO II-type chemical/oil tankers. Incorporated in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1983, Med Marine has showcased excellence in design during more than 20 years of operations while maintaining the highest global standards in its business processes.
Med Marine and U.S.-based Advanced Polymer Coatings first crossed paths in 2008 to coat the 7,100 DWT Medyilmaz 01 at Eregli Shipyard, one of the largest shipyards in Turkey, also owned by Med Marine. The two companies have worked together ever since, completing six coating projects with the MarineLINE® tank coating system aboard Med Marine vessels.
A History of Performance
A growing fleet, standardized on MarineLINE® from the start.
In 2012, Med Marine established YMN Tanker Marine Management Inc., a business arm providing technical and commercial management of chemical/oil tankers. YMN adopted the MarineLINE® tank coating system from its earliest vessels and continued specifying it as the fleet expanded in 2017, bringing the total to 13 chemical/oil tankers owned and managed under the YMN name.
Building on a decade of performance, YMN closed a deal to recoat the 2012-built MT Med Pacific in November 2022 and the 2013-built MT Med Adriatic in July 2023, with the work order calling for 9,750 square meters of MarineLINE® at the Eregli Shipyard.
- Coating system MarineLINE®
- Fleet size 13 chemical/oil tankers (12 MarineLINE®, 1 stainless steel)
- Total vessels coated 18 vessels for Med Marine overall
Driving Factors of Success
More cargo flexibility, faster turnarounds, lower emissions.
MarineLINE® is known for its high chemical resistance, durability, and versatility, but YMN's experience points to operational advantages that go further. With low absorption and desorption properties, MarineLINE® reduces the risk of cross-contamination between cargoes, allowing back-to-back loading of sensitive chemicals without the lengthy cleaning and ventilation cycles typically required between cargo changes.
That translates directly into measurable savings: shorter cleaning times, less chemical cleaner consumption, reduced slop, less fuel burned on ventilation, and a faster overall turnaround time between voyages.
- 12 of 13 YMN fleet tankers coated with MarineLINE®
- No cargo-switching restrictions — e.g. methanol back-to-back
- Shorter cleaning times with fewer chemicals and less slop
- Coating stability maintained throughout immersion
