Deal Snapshot
MarineLINE® Cargo Tank Coating System Set to Revitalize Two Ships for VEYSEL VARDAL GEMİCİLİK, DENİZCİLİK VE TİCARET A.Ş.
Advanced Polymer Coatings' marine division has secured two recoating contracts at Dentas Shipyard in Turkey, upgrading two 18-year-old chemical tankers from conventional epoxy linings to MarineLINE®, covering more than 12,000 square meters of cargo tank surface.
Overview
Aging tankers, increasing pressure to extend service life.
Advanced Polymer Coatings' marine division continues to expand its presence in Turkey with two significant recoating projects secured at Dentas Shipyard. The projects will see APC supply its MarineLINE® cargo tank coating system for Turkish shipowner VEYSEL VARDAL GEMİCİLİK, DENİZCİLİK VE TİCARET A.Ş. on two chemical tankers — the 6,800 DWT MT BARBAROS ULUC VARDAL and MT BARBAROS HAYRETTİN VARDAL.
The contracts mark another important step for APC in the Turkish maritime market, where chemical tanker owners are increasingly focused on extending vessel life, improving cargo flexibility, and reducing the long-term maintenance burden associated with conventional epoxy systems. For older vessels, recoating decisions are often about more than restoration, they're about improving the commercial usefulness of the asset for continued service in a demanding cargo environment.
The Scope
A full cargo tank upgrade across two aging vessels.
Both vessels are more than 18 years old and will be upgraded from their existing epoxy linings to MarineLINE®. Each tanker includes 12 cargo tanks and two slop tanks, with more than 12,000 square meters of MarineLINE® to be applied across the two vessels. APC's Tuzla-based Turkish team will oversee the projects locally, supporting the yard and shipowner throughout the recoating process.
The decision to replace the existing epoxy system with MarineLINE® reflects the shipowner's focus on long-term cargo tank performance, a coating system that plays a direct role in vessel flexibility, cargo compatibility, cleaning efficiency, and lifecycle cost.
- Coating system MarineLINE®
- Vessels MT Barbaros Uluc Vardal, MT Barbaros Hayrettin Vardal
- Vessel age 18+ years, upgrading from epoxy lining
- Tank configuration 12 cargo tanks + 2 slop tanks per vessel
- Coverage 12,000+ m² across both vessels
- Shipyard Dentas Shipyard, Turkey
The MarineLINE® Decision
A proven recoating solution for aging chemical tankers.
For APC, the projects reinforce the role of MarineLINE® as both a newbuild and recoating solution. While the coating system is widely specified for new chemical and product tankers, recoating projects like these demonstrate its value for existing vessels where owners are looking to improve tank protection, extend asset life, and strengthen commercial capability.
The work is scheduled to begin in August and September 2022 at Dentas Shipyard, with APC's regional team providing local technical oversight and project support throughout.
- Two vessels upgraded from epoxy to MarineLINE®
- 12,000+ m² of cargo tank surface recoated
- Local oversight from APC's Tuzla-based Turkish team
- Vessels positioned for continued service in modern chemical tanker trade
Looking Ahead
Quality and lasting protection, for newbuilds and aging vessels alike.
Once completed, the two vessels will return to service with upgraded cargo tank protection designed to support the operational demands of modern chemical tanker trade, reinforcing MarineLINE®'s value proposition across both newbuild and recoating markets.
We are very excited to have signed the contracts for these ships, upgrading them from a standard epoxy coating to MarineLINE®. This type of project reflects exactly what MarineLINE® brings to customers: quality, lasting protection they can count on for both newbuilds and aging vessels alike.
