Test Specimens
Specimens submitted for testing were 0.375” x 4.0” steel “bullets” coated with “ChemLINE® 784/32”

Test Procedure
1. The specimens were weighed and the weights recorded “as received”
2. The specimens were immersed in the test reagents @77+-3° F (25+-2° C) and allowed to remain for 30 days*
3. The specimens were removed from the immersion media, wiped dry, re-weighed and the weight recorded as “post-immersion”
4. The specimens were evaluated:
  4.1 Visually for corrosive or erosive effects
  4.2 Total weight loss, grams
5. The specimens were photographed as received, and after immersion *The specimen in acrylonitrile immersion was allowed to remain for 60 days
6. Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy (GC/MS) – Acrylonitrile Only: The acrylonitrile reagent was scanned pre-test to establish a baseline and again after 30 days and 60 days of immersion to determine whether or not any fractions of the coating material were extracted by the acrylonitrile.

Test Results: Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy Analysis of Acrylonitrile

The acrylonitrile in which Specimen No. 5805 was immersed was analyzed in its pure form, as received from Aldrich Chemical, again following 30 and 60 days with the ChemLINE® 784/32 coated specimen immersed.

Procedure: Four μl aliquots of the acrylonitrile were scanned through the Hewlett-Packard GC/MS. The scans were started at the end of the elution time of the acrylonitrile.

Neither the 30 nor the 60-day samples indicated any compounds other than the acrylonitrile. The results indicate that the acrylonitrile medium had not extracted any detectable amounts of volatile material from the test specimen.
